Overview

The Aurora College Certificate in Adult Education (CAED) is a six-course, self-paced credential for people teaching or planning to teach adults in campus and community settings across the Northwest Territories. It combines educational philosophy, theory, and principles with practical application, preparing educators to meet the diverse needs of adult learners. Courses may be delivered face-to-face, synchronously online, or asynchronously online, and are based out of the Yellowknife North Slave Campus. The program admits Aurora College staff, subject to space availability and their direct supervisor's approval, alongside external applicants who hold a high school diploma with credit for English 30-2. All applicants must first complete the Instructional Skills Workshop (GEN 0042), a prerequisite for entry, and every course in the certificate must be finished within five years of starting. The certificate suits current or aspiring adult educators, including community-based instructors, seeking a recognized credential in adult education theory and practice.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Aurora College staff (instructional or non-instructional) may be admitted to the CAED program subject to space availability and their direct supervisor's approval. External applicants must hold official transcripts showing, at minimum, a high school diploma with credit for English 30-2, and must submit a one-page letter of interest demonstrating a strong interest in adult education along with two letters of reference. All applicants, internal or external, must complete the Instructional Skills Workshop (GEN 0042), or an equivalent ISW from another institution, as a prerequisite for entry.
