Overview
Fundamentals of Carpentry 1 is a 20-week, classroom-and-lab certificate at Aurora College's Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith, combining theory with hands-on shop work. It gives participants entry-level knowledge and skills in carpentry, preparing them for entry-level employment or entry into a carpentry apprenticeship. Graduates receive a Certificate of Completion. Admission follows an academic pathway requiring applicants to be at least 18 years old with English 10-2, Math 10C (or 65% or higher in Math 10-3), and Science 10; graduates of Aurora College's Occupations and College Access Program (OCAP) may qualify with a minimum of 60% in Aurora College English 130, Math 140, and Science 140. A mature student/experiential pathway is available for applicants 20 or older who have been out of school for at least one year and have relevant work or life experience. To complete the program, students must earn a theory mark and a shop mark of at least 65% in each course.
