Overview
The Apprenticeship Electrician (Construction) program at Aurora College trains registered apprentices to install, alter, repair, and maintain electrical systems that provide heat, light, power, control, signal, and fire alarm functions in buildings and structures. Delivered at the Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith, the technical training component covers three levels, each consisting of 240 hours (eight weeks) of combined classroom and shop instruction. Between technical training blocks, apprentices complete on-the-job hours with an employer who holds a Journeyperson certificate in the electrical trade. Entry requires applicants to be registered with the GNWT Apprenticeship Division, secure a sponsoring employer, and meet the Trades Entrance Examination standard for the program. On completing all three levels of technical training and the required work-based hours, apprentices receive a Certificate of Qualification from the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and physically capable of performing the work involved in the electrical trade. They must obtain an overall average of 70%, with a minimum of 50% in each of the mathematics, English, and science subsections, on the Trades Entrance Examination (Cluster #5). Applicants must also secure a sponsoring employer who holds a Journeyperson certificate in the electrical trade and be registered with the GNWT Apprenticeship Division before enrolling.
