Overview
The Oil Heat Systems Technician program at Aurora College provides theory and practical training in the installation, service, adjustment, and repair of high-pressure, low-pressure, and vaporizing oil burners and related heating systems. Delivered at the Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith as part of the GNWT apprenticeship system, the technical training consists of 240 hours (eight weeks) of combined classroom and shop instruction. Apprentices must be registered with the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment, secure a sponsoring employer holding a Journeyperson certificate in the trade, and meet the program's Trades Entrance Examination standard covering mathematics, English, and science. To pass, participants must achieve a theory mark and a shop mark of at least 65 percent. Completion of the required technical training and on-the-job hours leads to a Certificate of Qualification from the Government of the Northwest Territories.

Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and physically capable of performing the work involved in the trade. They must obtain an overall average of 70%, with a minimum of 50% in each of the mathematics, English, and science subsections, on the Trades Entrance Examination (Cluster #4). Applicants must be registered with the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment (Apprenticeship Division) before registering.
