Overview
The Apprenticeship Plumber/Gasfitter program at Aurora College trains registered apprentices to plan, install, and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment, and controls. Delivered at the Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith, Aurora College provides technical training for two of the four levels required for full certification, known as Plumber/Gasfitter B, with each level consisting of 240 hours (eight weeks) of combined classroom and shop instruction. Apprentices alternate technical training with on-the-job work under an employer holding a Journeyperson certificate in the plumbing trade, and must be registered Canadian apprentices with the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment. To progress, participants must achieve a school mark and shop mark of at least 65 percent, and pass the GNWT-administered level examination with a mark of at least 70 percent. Completion of the full apprenticeship leads to a Certificate of Qualification from the Government of the Northwest Territories.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and physically capable of performing the work involved in the Plumber/Gasfitter trade, and must be registered Canadian apprentices. They must secure a sponsoring employer who holds a Journeyperson certificate in the plumbing trade and be registered with the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment before enrolling.
