Overview
Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems at Bishop's University is a Certificate offered by the Department of Environment, Agriculture and Geography in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The certificate consists of ten Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems courses and can be completed without enrolling in a full Bachelor's degree. It can be finished in as little as eight months on a full-time basis, or spread over several semesters for part-time students. Coursework draws on Bishop's 140-acre Educational Farm attached to campus, where faculty conduct research supported by more than three million dollars in grants. The certificate suits students seeking focused training in sustainable food systems and agricultural practices without committing to a full undergraduate degree program. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
