Overview

This two-year, four-term diploma from Bow Valley College's Chiu School of Business prepares students for careers in financial services, covering financial planning, industry principles and standards, financial products, tax and legal considerations, risk management, and customer service. Four courses in the program meet educational requirements toward the QAFP and CFP designations through a partnership with FP Canada. Students gain networking opportunities including mentorship with BMO and Scotiabank, case competitions, mock interviews, and industry speed-networking events. Core courses are offered in class or online, while major courses are primarily in-person with some online options. Graduates are prepared for roles such as customer service representative, banking and investment professional, finance and insurance clerk, or supervisor in sales and service. The program runs on a Fall, Winter, and Spring intake cycle and is open to both domestic and international students.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following: (1) credit in English Language Arts 30-1, or a minimum of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2, or equivalent, together with credit in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2 or equivalent; (2) successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test with a minimum standard score of 520 on the Language Arts: Reading and Writing test and 520 on the Math test; (3) satisfactory results on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test; or (4) completion of 30 credits from a recognized business program, subject to departmental approval. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet Bow Valley College's English language proficiency requirements.
