Overview
The Social Work Diploma is a two-year, six-term program at Bow Valley College that prepares students for a career in social work practice. Coursework builds comprehensive knowledge of social work theory and methods alongside practical skills for supporting individuals, families, and communities, with an emphasis on social justice and advocacy. The program is accredited and approved by the Alberta College of Social Workers, allowing graduates to apply for registration as a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Alberta. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires credit in English Language Arts 30-1, or a minimum of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2, or equivalent. Applicants may alternatively qualify through successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test with a standard score of 520 in Language Arts: Reading and Writing, or through satisfactory results on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet the college's English language proficiency requirements.
