Overview
Bow Valley College's Software Development Diploma is a four-term program that gives students practical experience across the full cycle of software development through hands-on learning and real project work. Coursework covers industry-standard planning, development, and quality-assurance testing practices, along with the fundamentals of computer logic and emerging topics such as user experience (UX) design and the internet of things. Students work with modern programming languages and frameworks including C#, C++, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React, and Node.js, alongside SQL for database work, and use industry tools such as Visual Studio, Git/GitHub, Docker, and Postman. The curriculum builds both technical coding skills and an understanding of how software projects are planned, built, tested, and maintained in a professional setting. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires credit in English Language Arts 30-1, or a minimum of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2, or equivalent, together with credit in Math 30-1 or Math 30-2, or equivalent. Applicants may alternatively qualify through successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test with minimum scores of 520 in Writing Skills, Interpreting Literature and Art, and Math, or through satisfactory results on the Bow Valley College Admission and Placement Test. Applicants whose first language is not English must also meet the college's English language proficiency requirements.
