Overview
This certificate program introduces students with no prior experience to motorcycle, ATV, and side-by-side service and repair, combining classroom lecture with hands-on shop practical exercises in a blended delivery format. It runs full-time over 20 weeks at BCIT's Burnaby campus, with intakes in February and September, and is limited to domestic students. Admission requires basic math and English proficiency, such as Foundations of Math 10 or equivalent and English Studies 12 or equivalent. The program meets all technical training requirements for the Level 1 apprenticeship outcomes for Motorcycle Technician in BC. On completion, students receive a BCIT program completion certificate along with 300 work-based training hours credited toward their apprenticeship, and are set up with an apprenticeship number through SkilledTradesBC, allowing them to pursue Level 2 technical training once they gain further work experience. Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet the English Studies 12 course requirement at 50% or equivalent, or pass the BCIT English Trades Entry Assessment. Mathematics is met by Foundations of Math and Pre-Calculus 10 at 50%, Workplace Math 10 at 50%, another acceptable BC or Yukon course, or the BCIT Math Trades Entry Assessment. Applicants who will attend a high-school site as part of the program must undergo a criminal record check. High school graduation is recommended by SkilledTradesBC but not required; a Class 6 motorcycle licence is not required but is beneficial, and applicants should be comfortable with the physical demands of standing, pushing and lifting, and need computer access for online course components. This program is not available to international students.
