Trades - Apprenticeship in Aircraft Structural Technician Apprenticeship is a trades - apprenticeship in Trades programme taught at British Columbia Institute of Technology in Burnaby, Canada. The programme runs for 16 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition is CAD 3,000 per total for local students.
This program is a trades apprenticeship for aircraft structural technicians, delivered by the British Columbia Institute of Technology at its Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond. Training covers airframe assembly, blueprint interpretation, sheet-metal cutting and forming, and riveting, skills the program states are also transferable to sheet metal, construction, industrial, and transportation trades. Technical training is organized into four levels, delivered through full-time, in-person classroom instruction and coordinated with employer-based work experience; participants must already be registered apprentices with SkilledTradesBC and employed with a company in the aviation manufacturing sector. Assessment combines theory and practical skills testing, and completion of the classroom levels together with the required trade qualification leads to a Diploma of Trades Training. The program suits individuals already working as apprentices in aviation manufacturing who need structured, industry-aligned classroom instruction to progress toward journeyperson qualification, rather than new entrants seeking a stand-alone credential. Because enrolment depends on active apprentice registration and employer sponsorship, it functions as the in-school component of a broader, employer-supported apprenticeship pathway rather than a self-contained diploma or certificate program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry is through SkilledTradesBC apprenticeship registration rather than a general academic application: applicants must already be an active apprentice registered with SkilledTradesBC and be employed with a company able to support their apprenticeship training before enrolling at BCIT. The program page does not publish specific secondary-school course or grade prerequisites, nor an English-language test score, for this apprenticeship. Training is limited to Canadian citizens and permanent residents; BCIT does not accept international applicants into this program. Once eligible, applicants consult the apprenticeship training schedule for an available intake, create a BCIT ID, register online, and pay a CAD 200 commitment fee to confirm their seat.
