Overview
This apprenticeship trains registered apprentices to assemble and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, and other heavy metal structures using industrial equipment and hand tools. The program spans three years combining workplace and classroom learning: a mandatory six-month Entry Level Technical component followed by two further technical training levels of five weeks each, for 360 in-school hours in total, alongside 5,700 required workplace hours. Classes run at the Burnaby campus on weekday mornings or afternoons, with multiple intakes offered through the year. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own.
