This certificate program is the advanced tier of BCIT's Provincial Registered Welder training pathway, following the Foundation and Level B certificates. Classroom instruction runs approximately eight weeks, depending on the number of modules required, followed by a mandatory 40-week work experience component, delivered on a continuous-intake basis with multiple start dates as spaces open. Training takes place at BCIT's Burnaby campus across two shift schedules, 0700-1330 or 1430-2100, Monday through Friday. The curriculum covers pipe welding with stainless steel and low-alloy steel electrodes, along with more advanced blueprint reading and welding metallurgy, aiming to give graduates the broadest base of skills and employment opportunities across metal-joining industries. Admission requires completion of BCIT's Level B program or equivalent training, English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent, and applicants must be welders currently or recently employed in the field. Acceptance is on a first-qualified basis as space remains. On completing the required work experience, graduates qualify for A Level Certification registered through SkilledTradesBC. The program suits practising welders seeking to advance to the highest level of BC's Provincial Registered Welder pathway.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet Category 3 English proficiency, English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent. On top of this, admission requires completion of the BCIT Level B program, or other training equivalent to the Level B institutional/college training component of the Provincial Registered Welder program; completion of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding 1 course in the Level B program, or its equivalent, is a further prerequisite for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding 2 within this program. No portfolio, interview, or minimum-GPA condition is stated. Applicants who do not yet meet the trade prerequisite are directed toward BCIT's Trades Discovery General or Trades Discovery for Women preparatory programs. Applications are accepted year-round on a first-qualified basis, with qualified applicants wait-listed once full.
