Trades - Apprenticeship in Welder - 456A

The Welder apprenticeship (456A/437A) trains registered apprentices in welding through Cambrian College's in-school delivery of Ontario's dual apprenticeship system. About 90% of training takes place in the workplace under a sponsoring employer, with the remainder delivered as in-school classroom instruction on welding theory. Apprentices complete sequential levels, each typically comprising roughly 240 hours; Level 1 and Level 2 in-school blocks are offered in the Fall term. To enter the program, an applicant is generally expected to have completed an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent, be a resident of Ontario, and be at least 16 years old. Enrolment in the in-school component requires sponsorship by an employer and registration as an apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario before classes begin. Apprentices are responsible for purchasing their own tools and textbooks, and the Government of Ontario's Tools Grant is available to help offset those costs for eligible students.
