Offered by Camosun College in Victoria, Canada, Early Learning and Care Diploma is a diploma in Early Childhood Education programme. The programme runs for 16 months, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 35,136 per total (CAD 8,400 per total for local students).
The diploma builds the knowledge, skills and values needed to create nurturing, responsive early learning experiences, resting on the view that children and their families bring competence and capability. Indigenous perspectives on supporting children and families, connection to land and place, and the lasting impact of colonization and residential schooling run throughout the coursework. Students learn to support and strengthen children's complex, individual identities within their particular contexts, framed through a sociocultural view of early childhood education drawn from current research and discourse.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: One of English 12 at C+ or the Camosun English 12 alternative at C, plus two non-academic requirements. Attendance at a scheduled Early Learning and Care information session is required. So is documented experience: 40 hours as an employee or volunteer within the last five years in an early-years group programme, setting or child care, working with children aged five and under. Up to two settings may be combined, with at least 20 hours in each. The evidence is a letter from the employer or supervisor giving your name, the hours and date range, the name, address and description of the setting with the age range and number of children, and the signature, name, job title and contact details of the person confirming it. Where the requirement names a secondary-school course, Camosun accepts its own equivalent upgrading course instead, and a C in that Camosun course covers a C+ requirement in an English 12 prerequisite. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS must clear Camosun's general college English standard on top of anything listed here — IELTS Academic 6.0 with no sub-score under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 78 with no sub-score under 19, PTE Academic 54 with no sub-score under 50, Cambridge C1 Advanced 174 with no sub-score under 169, or CAEL CE 60 with no component under 60, taken within the past two years — because the college states that its general standard applies even where a programme page shows a lower one.
Application Details
Start Date:Two starts a year: September (Fall term) and January (Winter term). Limited (seated) enrolment: the cohort is capped and a waitlist is normally opened once qualified applicants outnumber seats.
Application Deadline:Limited-enrolment (seated) programme: Camosun publishes an opening date but no closing date, and applications can be shut at any point once the waitlist outgrows the seats on offer. DOMESTIC APPLICANTS: the Winter 2027 (January) window opened 15 January 2026 and the Fall 2027 (September) window opens 1 October 2026. Offers are issued first-qualified, first-served — for September-start seated programmes they begin going out in February — so apply as early as you can and check Camosun's Program Availability page for the live status before you apply. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS have separate deadlines: 1 June for a September (Fall) start and 1 October for January (Winter). Those dates hold only while seats remain, so a popular intake can close sooner; a later application may still be looked at if seats are open and there is time to obtain a study permit. Seats in a capped programme often go before those dates, so contact International Admissions to confirm one is free. Domestic and international applicants both apply online through EducationPlannerBC (apply.educationplannerbc.ca/camosun).
