Overview
The Bachelor of Communication Studies degree combines theory and practice in a project-based curriculum in various areas of strategic communication. In the program, you'll learn critical approaches to media, communication and culture together with applied skills in writing, editing and public speaking. Past graduates work in city halls, non-profits and major industry.

Admission Requirements: Direct entry from B.C. high school requires graduation with English Studies 12, English 12, or English First Peoples 12 at a C+; applicants with previous post-secondary experience instead need a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.33 scale, or the equivalent. Applicants who completed their previous education in a language other than English must meet Capilano's general English-language proficiency requirement, published on the university's admission-requirements page: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6; TOEFL iBT 83 (or, from Spring 2027, 4.5 overall with no section below 4.0 on the redesigned scale); CAEL 70; PTE Academic 56; or Duolingo English Test 125+ with no sub-score below 115 (accepted on a temporary basis). Capilano's own page also notes that ENGL 100 is a required course in the Bachelor of Communication Studies, and that enrolling in it requires results from Capilano's English Diagnostic Test (EDT) unless the applicant meets one of the EDT exemptions; the stated criteria are minimums and do not guarantee admission.
