Program details

Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Geomatics provides science-based training in geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing using imaging from satellites, piloted aircraft and drones, Global Positioning System (GNSS) technology, land surveying, and cartography, with course electives in related physical or natural science disciplines including computer science. Students apply advanced computer software and techniques to improve understanding and management of the Earth's physical and natural systems, using tools such as ESRI ArcGIS and Google Earth, two dedicated geomatics laboratories, and a library collection of more than 166,000 digital and paper maps. A Bachelor of Arts in Geomatics is offered separately for students who prefer an arts-based course of study. The program combines hands-on learning with field experience through co-op and work placements at Carleton University.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including a minimum of six 4U or M courses. The six 4U or M courses must include Advanced Functions and two of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Sciences, or Physics (Calculus and Vectors is strongly recommended; for the Honours program, Calculus and Vectors may be substituted for Advanced Functions). An overall average of at least 70% is normally required to be considered for admission; higher averages are required for admission to programs for which the demand for places by qualified applicants exceeds the number of places available.
