Carleton's Civil Engineering master's program addresses current infrastructure challenges, including autonomous vehicles, 3D-printed structures, drone-based infrastructure assessment, and advanced structural dynamics. Students can pursue either a coursework-based Master of Engineering or a thesis-based Master of Applied Science, with specializations available in environmental, fire safety, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. The program is delivered in person, with Fall, Winter, and Summer admission intakes, and completion time depends on the pathway chosen. Thesis-stream students complete original research culminating in a thesis and oral defence, while coursework-stream students complete a prescribed set of graduate courses. The breadth of specializations reflects the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's research strengths and prepares graduates for professional practice or further graduate study in civil engineering.
