This program leads to a Graduate Diploma in Linguistics, offered by the School of Linguistics and Language Studies at Carleton University, open to PhD and master's students from disciplines other than Linguistics who wish to incorporate the study of linguistics into their primary program. It is designed primarily for students pursuing Carleton degrees in Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, French, and English. The program takes an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on faculty from across departments, and culminates in a Capstone Examination that assesses whether students have reached the same level of linguistics knowledge as graduates of the MA in Linguistics. Its length depends on the student's primary program. Ottawa's bilingual, multicultural setting as a centre of government, education, and health care, and its concentration of non-profit organization headquarters, provide teaching and research opportunities during the program and career options afterward. Entry is offered in the Fall term.
