Diploma in Social Science (English)

Social Science (English) is a two-year pre-university Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) delivered in English at Cegep de Sept-Iles, program code 300.A3. The program covers human phenomena through the main facts, notions and concepts of the social sciences, including psychological and sociological theories, laws, models and schools of thought linked to their authors and to real situations. Coursework develops critical thinking and intellectual rigour, applies social-science methodologies such as reasoning, hypothesis-deduction and rational argument, and builds skills to interpret news, articles and statistics using appropriate information technologies. A bilingual option lets students combine the program with courses that allow them to pursue university studies in either English or French. The program includes an international cooperation trip, access to a dedicated Social Science Centre and other educational activities. Graduates are prepared to pursue university studies in fields such as psychology, sociology, history and political science.
