Overview
Technologie minérale (271.AA/271.AB/271.AC) is a technical Diploma of College Studies (DEC) at Cégep de Sept-Îles covering geology, mine exploitation, and mineral processing. Students study geological surveying and deposit characterization, mine planning and oversight for underground, open-pit, and quarry operations, and mineral concentration processes including flotation and metallurgical extraction, along with waste control and sample analysis. The program runs three years, beginning with a two-year common core across the three subject areas before further specialization. It is delivered in an alternance travail-études format with two paid internships, and training makes use of the college's ArcelorMittal Pavilion facilities along with field trips and site visits; bilingual general education options are available. The program suits students who enjoy outdoor and field-based work, are drawn to the earth sciences, and want logical, analytical, hands-on training tied closely to the mining sector. Graduates are prepared for roles in mineral resource management, mining companies, engineering firms, and research centres, with the option to continue into university-level geology or mining engineering programs.
