Program details

Overview

Développement logiciel & IA (DEC 420.B0), listed under the SRAM equivalence Techniques de l'informatique, is Cégep de Sorel-Tracy's technical computing program, focused on software development and artificial intelligence. Students work with equipment for building standalone, web and mobile applications, and the program page describes practical coursework on the Internet of Things, a topic it says few Quebec colleges offer at the practical level, alongside coverage of related areas such as cybersecurity and interconnected-device ecosystems. The program also includes a technology-entrepreneurship component in which students can develop skills in bringing AI-built software to real users, illustrated on the page by a student project (Moonitoring AgTech) built for cattle producers. Admission information indicates the program is offered through an alternance travail-études format, and a DEC-BAC pathway toward university studies is also available to graduates. It suits students interested in emerging technologies who have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a methodical and organized approach, attention to detail, creativity, and the communication skills needed to work as an intermediary between technical systems and end users. It leads to programmer and programmer-analyst roles in software development.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Domestic admission requires a Quebec DES or DEP with passes in Secondary V language of instruction, Secondary V second language, and Secondary IV mathematics, per Cégep de Sorel-Tracy's general college admission conditions. This programme (SRAM equivalent: Techniques de l'informatique) also requires Secondary V Mathématique Culture, société et technique, or Secondary IV Technico-Sciences or Sciences Naturelles, or the equivalent; a make-up course for the Secondary IV TS mathematics prerequisite runs at the Cégep each fall, and applicants who have not passed it before the term starts are redirected into the Tremplin DEC bridging programme. Winter-session admission is limited to candidates who have already completed at least one session in this programme. Applications are submitted through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca) as a regular candidate, with a non-refundable $30 fee. International applicants are admitted for the Fall session only and, unless they studied in French, in Quebec, in France, or at an accredited French lycée, must submit a French-proficiency test result — Bright Language, TCF tout public, DELF tout public (minimum level B2), DALF, or TEF — plus an $85 CAD SRAM application-analysis fee, by the 14 March deadline.

Application Details

Start Date: September (January admission limited to continuing students)
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through SRAM (admission.sram.qc.ca): the college's page currently shows fall-intake rounds of 1 March, 22 April and 27 May 2026 (the cycle that has already started) and winter 2027 rounds of 1 November and 25 November 2026, with later applications assessed in successive rounds while seats remain; fall 2027 round dates were not yet published at the time of this check. International applicants apply through SRAM's international stream and must submit by 14 March for fall entry only, as the college does not offer winter intake to international students; SRAM does not publish a separate rolling window for these applicants beyond that fixed date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
