This technical diploma (DEC) in lutherie at Cégep Limoilou trains students to build, repair, and adjust the sound of violins or guitars, offered as two specializations: Lutherie Violon (violin and viola) and Lutherie Guitare (classical and acoustic guitar). Coursework combines hands-on instrument-making craftsmanship with business-management courses, and students build several instruments over the programme, culminating in a public exhibition, concert, and showcase event. Classes are taught in small groups with Fab Lab technology integration and access to a range of tonewoods. The programme runs three years (six sessions), delivered on campus across the Limoilou campus and the Campus des métiers d'art (CFCMA). Graduates pursue self-employment, work in lutherie workshops or instrument factories, or in educational institutions and music retail, with university-transfer pathways to Concordia's fine-arts programme and design and arts programmes at Laval, Université de Montréal, and UQAM.
