Overview
The Personal Support Worker - Whitby (Schlegel Villages - Taunton Mills) program will prepare you with the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate care when assisting individuals with broad-spectrum conditions and health care needs. Your help will enable them to lead active and fulfilling lives in the community and institutions, both here and abroad. This offering of the Personal Support Worker program is hosted at Schlegel Village’s Taunton Mills location in Whitby. From your first class to your first day on the job, we help fund your journey—covering uniforms, textbooks, transportation, food stipends, CPR and First Aid certification, Food Handler permits, and your vulnerable sector check—so you can focus on becoming the health care professional you aspire to be. The Personal Support Worker courses will focus on the full range of home and health-related services required by individuals with physical disabilities, cognitive impairments, and chronic and acute illnesses. The skills and knowledge you receive will give you the flexibility to adapt to a variety of settings such as hospitals, homes, schools, community residential agencies, and long-term or chronic care facilities. During your time in the Personal Support Worker program you will learn through a hands-on approach facilitated by hospital and community health care-experienced faculty members. Additionally, clinical and community setting learning opportunities will allow you to offer direct care to individuals. You will gain experience caring for persons across their lifespan and learn to effectively communicate and collaborate with members of an interprofessional health care team. The training you receive can open doors through Centennial's Bridging for Personal Support Worker to Practical Nursing Program. Program Highlights This Personal Support Worker program reflects the latest practices and policies in the field. You'll spend 14 weeks gaining extensive practical experience by working with teams in hospitals, long-term care institutions and the community. Many students have been offered employment in the agencies in which they completed their placements. With one instructor to each small group of clinical placement students, you'll have the support necessary to learn, grow and practice your newly acquired skills. Faculty members are experienced, caring and supportive. Community agencies and clinical settings recognize the certificate you'll earn.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or mature-applicant status at 19 or older, plus Grade 12 English (College or University level), or a pass on Centennial's English Admission Test. The programme page defers standardized-test scores to the college's general language-proficiency page, whose Standard Programs scale applies: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band under 5.5, TOEFL iBT 67 with Reading at least 16 and Writing at least 23, PTE Academic 51 or higher, or Duolingo 105 or higher. Before clinical placement, students must obtain a clear vulnerable-sector police check issued within six months of the placement start date (any prior record must be pardoned), complete the programme's immunization requirements, hold current CPR at the Healthcare Provider level and a standard first-aid certificate, and attend mandatory mask-fit testing. No minimum admission GPA is published.

Application Deadline:Centennial publishes no application deadline for this program; what follows is the Ontario college cycle that governs it. Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for a program starting in Fall 2027 the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, and applications arriving after it are still assessed, but first-come first-served while places remain. Across the Ontario college system the application opened on 26 September 2026, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and an offer must be accepted by 1 May 2027. One $150 fee covers up to five program choices. International applicants apply directly to Centennial through its own international application process and are assessed on a rolling basis across the Fall, Winter and Summer intakes; the college publishes no fixed international closing date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
