Overview
Centennial College's Fitness and Health Promotion program is comprised of hands-on practical learning in laboratory and placement settings and a comprehensive academic grounding that will prepare you for a career assisting individuals and groups to reach their highest potential for overall well-being. Fitness and Health Promotion, taught within the School of Community and Health Studies, is a two-year health diploma program that will include: Anatomy and physiology Fitness assessment Leadership skills Injury management Nutrition Fitness marketing Health promotion Computer skills Mental illness and mental wellness Sports performance training principles Speed, agility, quickness and Olympic weightlifting principles Older adult and special populations programming Physical literacy and long-term athlete development (LTAD) In addition to this combination of topics, you'll have the opportunity to gain the skills necessary to, after graduation, become a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) according to the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and a Registered Health and Exercise Practitioner (RHEP) according to the Ontario Fitness Council (OFC) requirements. The OFC RHEP includes a scope of practice for three separate disciplines: Group Exercise, Personal Trainer, and Older Adult Trainer. You'll also learn course material related to the canfitpro Personal Training Specialist (PTS) certification and have an opportunity to receive this certificate in the program. Lastly, you will have access to a unique mental health certification called the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) offered by Health Out Loud, a Toronto-based charity.

Admission Requirements: An OSSD or equivalent, or mature-student status, with Grade 12 English (C or U) at the stated minimum grade or a pass in Centennial's English Admission Test, plus one science at Grade 11 or Grade 12 (C or U) from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Exercise Science. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Before each field placement you need a clear police check with vulnerable sector screening issued within six months, CPR at level C completed and renewed annually, and a recognised standard first aid course. Progress Campus, delivered in person, with a September start open to domestic and international applicants.

Application Deadline:Centennial publishes no application deadline for this program; what follows is the Ontario college cycle that governs it. Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for a program starting in Fall 2027 the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, and applications arriving after it are still assessed, but first-come first-served while places remain. Across the Ontario college system the application opened on 26 September 2026, offers may be issued from 1 November 2026, and an offer must be accepted by 1 May 2027. One $150 fee covers up to five program choices. International applicants apply directly to Centennial through its own international application process and are assessed on a rolling basis across the Fall, Winter and Summer intakes; the college publishes no fixed international closing date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
