Overview
Students in this program will use a multi-agency, systems level approach to examine government, NGO, Indigenous community and private sector interoperability considerations in emergency management. Through scenario and case study-based activities students will explore the five pillars of emergency management: prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Incident Management System (IMS), and International Association of Emergency Managers certifications will inform the program content, with graduates eligible to become members in both organizations. Students will be prepared to manage the multi-continuous phases of these five pillars using Critical incident command, Critical Infrastructure Management, and Critical Communications. Student examination of elements of business continuity will support risk management and mitigation for small- to mid-size enterprises (SMEs).

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related discipline; applicants with partial post-secondary education may instead qualify with five or more years of experience in a related field, subject to transcript and resume review, and foreign transcripts require a credential evaluation. Applicants without a two-year diploma or degree must submit a resume demonstrating volunteer or paid experience in health and safety, emergency response, or public safety and security. English proficiency follows Centennial's institution-wide requirement for graduate-certificate programmes: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 81 (minimum 19 Reading, 23 Writing), PTE Academic 60 or higher, or Duolingo 125 or higher. No portfolio or interview is listed. The programme admits in January and May for both domestic and international applicants.
