Truck and Transport Mechanic Apprentice is a trades apprenticeship level at Coast Mountain College for students progressing toward Truck and Transport Mechanic certification. Truck and transport mechanics diagnose, repair, and service highway buses and trucks, working on the mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of vehicles, including fuel, brake, steering, transmission, and cooling systems, and use computerized diagnostic equipment for preventive maintenance and performance testing. This level is a full-time, competency-based, eight-week technical training block delivered through the Industry Training Authority apprenticeship system. Entry requires registration as an apprentice with a Trades Worker ID and completion of Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Level 1, Heavy Mechanical Foundations, Truck and Transport Mechanic Level 1, Transport Trailer Technician Level 1, or Diesel Engine Mechanic Level 1. Applicants are recommended to have 1,000 work-based hours and Grade 10 (or equivalent) Math, English, and Science, with Grade 12 preferred. Graduates typically work for commercial transport vehicle dealers, garages, and service stations.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must be a Registered Apprentice with a Trades Worker ID (TWID) number and have completed one of: Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (HDET) Level 1, Heavy Mechanical Foundations (HMF), Truck and Transport Mechanic (TTM) Level 1, Transport Trailer Technician (TTM) Level 1, or Diesel Engine Mechanic (DEM) Level 1. Recommended 1,000 work-based hours. Grade 10 or equivalent Math, English, and Science required; Grade 12 preferred.
