This apprenticeship, delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus through the MacPhail School of Energy, is a Red Seal Endorsed trade that trains apprentices to install, service, and repair household and commercial appliances. It offers two credential paths: a General Appliance Service Technician diploma (three 12-month periods) or a Commercial Appliance Service Technician certificate. Each period requires a minimum of 1,600 hours of on-the-job training plus eight weeks of classroom instruction at SAIT, though the Commercial track's third year requires no in-school time. Graduates earn journeyperson status through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training. The program does not accept international applicants; apprentices must be Alberta residents (or primarily work in the province), hold Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, refugee status, or a valid CUAET visa (or be sponsored by an employer with a post-graduation work permit), and must meet the education requirements for their chosen training path.
