Applied Coastal Ecology (ACE) Certificate

The Applied Coastal Ecology (ACE) Certificate is a 31-credit programme at Coast Mountain College preparing students for work in coastal natural-resources monitoring and ecosystem assessment. Coursework combines foundational classes in biology, geography, chemistry and oceanography with field-based training, including field school courses offered in spring and summer. Study can be completed full-time or part-time. Admission requires English Studies 11 (or First Peoples English 11), Life Sciences 11, Foundations of Math 10 or Pre-calculus 10, and Chemistry 11, or equivalents. The certificate is intended to give graduates practical, employment-ready environmental-science field skills for entry-level roles in coastal ecosystem monitoring and assessment work, and can also serve as a foundation for further study in related science programmes. The Prince Rupert-based programme runs an annual intake and pairs lecture-based instruction with hands-on field training so that graduates leave with direct experience conducting coastal ecological fieldwork.
