Program details

Overview

Sciences de la nature is a two-year, full-time pre-university DEC at the main Salaberry-de-Valleyfield campus, with fall and winter intakes. According to the page, the program builds understanding of how the human body functions, how atoms interact, and the physical and mathematical phenomena that describe the universe, preparing students who want to pursue university studies and careers in scientific fields. The page lists several distinctive features: multiple support measures to ease the transition into the first session, an astronomy observatory located on the college's rooftop, field excursions, and an annual student-produced science journal that the college describes as a unique concept in Quebec, distributed in several thousand copies to schools and regional businesses. Students may also take part in an optional research-oriented ecology trip to Thompson Island and can follow either a "Chercheur(-se)" research-oriented track available to Sciences de la nature students or an "Explorateur(-trice)" track open to the wider student body. It suits students aiming for university programs in the natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, or related fields who want early exposure to research-style activities alongside the core science curriculum.
