Diploma in Musique is a diploma in Music programme taught at Collège Lionel Groulx in Sainte-Thérèse, Canada. The programme runs for 2 years. Teaching is in French. Tuition for international students is CAD 15,150 per year (CAD 3,740 per year for local students).
Musique is a two-year, four-session pre-university DEC at Collège Lionel-Groulx offered in two profiles named in this program's own title: Classique and Jazz. The Classique profile builds technique on the student's instrument, works through repertoire from baroque to contemporary composers, and includes regular ensemble playing alongside music theory, ear training, and music-history courses, with weekly individual instrumental instruction. The Jazz profile centres on improvisation and personal musical expression, with staged levels of instrumental instruction, secondary-instrument study (typically piano), jazz harmony and improvisation workshops, ensemble participation, weekly accompaniment from a staff pianist, and a capstone concert that students help produce and record. Both profiles combine this specialized training with the college's general-education requirements in French, English, philosophy, and physical education. Admission to either profile requires passing a music audition -- assessing solfège, dictation, theory, and instrumental performance -- in addition to meeting the college's general entry requirements; a non-refundable audition fee applies. The program suits students who already play an instrument at an intermediate level or beyond and want to keep developing as a classical or jazz musician while completing a pre-university diploma that leads toward further study in performance, composition, music education, or related fields.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond the college's general admission conditions (a DES, or a DEP plus Secondary 5 language of instruction, Secondary 5 second language and Secondary 4 mathematics, or training and experience the college judges sufficient, plus adequate spoken and written French with the Bright test at 3.7 minimum in the written part, the oral part and overall for anyone without a francophone-sector DES), this program's own stated prerequisite is a passed audition. Selection is decided jointly by audition and academic record: "l'audition et le dossier scolaire sont les criteres de selection pour l'admission au programme." The audition covers solfege, dictation and theory examinations plus an instrumental audition, and carries a $38 non-refundable fee. For the cited cycle, the audition-request deadline is 14 February, the audition is held 20 February, and the SRAM application is due 1 March. Graduates of certain high-school music-concentration programs may be exempt from the audition under a pilot project.
