Overview
This Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education prepares students to help learners of all ages appreciate and create visual art in classrooms and community centres, combining artistic disciplines with teaching preparation. Students use media labs and production studios and pursue internships in community art programs and schools. Applicants may apply to a specialization option that leads to provincial teaching certification; the specialization requires 120 credits, while the major requires 66 credits. Full-time study takes a minimum of three to four years (90-120 credits) depending on the student's academic background, with classes on the Sir George Williams campus. Admission is for the Fall term only and requires a letter of intent and portfolio submitted directly to the department.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Minimum cut-off averages vary by credential: Quebec CEGEP applicants need a DEC, High School applicants need a C+ overall average, IB Diploma applicants need 26 points, and Baccalauréat français applicants need 11; British GCE qualifications are also accepted. All applicants must submit a letter of intent and a portfolio directly to the department. Concordia's institution-wide English proficiency minimum applies unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 70, or Duolingo English Test 105. Admission is for the Fall term only.
