Program details
Overview
This Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry examines the chemical processes that occur within living cells, covering the structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids and how organisms respond biochemically to toxic compounds in the environment. Students take core coursework in biochemistry, organic chemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology, with hands-on laboratory training and access to specialized research facilities such as BIOFINS. The program is offered as a Major (45 credits), Specialization (69 credits), or Honours (72 credits), and emphasizes training in research methodology, preparing students for graduate study or work in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and health-science fields. Full-time study takes a minimum of three to four years (90-120 credits), with classes held on the Loyola campus in Montreal, and admission in the Fall or Winter term.
