Overview
This Certificate in Adult Education, offered by Concordia's Faculty of Arts and Science, gives educators specialized training to help adult learners refresh their skills or change careers. The one-year, 30-credit program (a 24-credit Minor is also available) combines five core courses with electives covering adult-learning theory and practice. It is aimed at professionals such as community facilitators, industrial and business training specialists, health-care educators, in-service education coordinators and volunteer service coordinators who want to develop the tools and skills to help adults reach their learning goals throughout their lives. Coursework addresses how adults learn, program design and evaluation, and strategies for supporting adult learners across community, workplace and educational settings. Classes are held on the Sir George Williams campus in Montreal, with entry in the Fall or Winter term.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Quebec CEGEP requires a DEC; Ontario and other Canadian high-school applicants need a C+ average, with ACT or SAT not required; IB Diploma applicants need 26 points overall; IB Career-related Programme applicants need 4.3/7 overall; Baccalaureat francais applicants need 11 points overall; British GCE applicants need at least two A-level exams at DD or four AS-level exams with equivalent results, or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in a related subject; university transfer applicants (internal or external) need a C average. Concordia's institution-wide English proficiency minimum applies unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 70, or Duolingo 105. Fall applications are due March 1 (February 1 for U.S./international) and Winter applications November 1 (August 1 for U.S./international).
