Overview
This Doctor of Philosophy in Software Engineering is the highest degree offered by the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, combining specialized courses with a research thesis under the supervision of an experienced researcher to build the greatest possible expertise in the chosen field through intensive research. The thesis-based degree requires 90 credits: 12 credits of coursework from engineering and computer science courses, 8 credits covering a comprehensive examination, doctoral research proposal, and PhD seminar, and 70 credits of doctoral research and thesis. The program runs on a full-time or part-time basis over roughly four years, is based at the Sir George Williams (SGW) campus, and admits students in the Fall, Winter, or Summer term, giving applicants flexibility in when they begin their doctoral research.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a master's degree or equivalent with high standing in engineering or computer science, or in a cognate discipline. Holders of a bachelor's degree only may be considered for the master's program first, with the possibility of PhD admission after completing a minimum of one term of full-time study. Applicants whose primary language is not English must demonstrate that their knowledge of English is sufficient to pursue graduate studies in their chosen field; the program follows Concordia's standard graduate English-proficiency requirement of IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with no band below 6.5, TOEFL iBT 95 with no section below 20, or Duolingo English Test 120.
