Program details
Overview
The MA in Philosophy is a thesis-based program examining questions of knowledge, logic, ethical action, human rights, and global justice through analytic, continental, historical, and comparative approaches to philosophy. Students complete 18 credits of coursework drawn from at least three subject areas, followed by 27 credits toward either a Research Thesis or a Monograph Thesis, for a total of 45 credits over two years of full-time study. The program is designed to prepare graduates for doctoral studies as well as teaching and other professional roles. Admission requires a bachelor's degree in philosophy or a related field, including coursework that prepares students for graduate-level study in philosophy. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate sufficient proficiency for graduate study. The program admits students in both the Fall and Winter terms and is based at the Sir George Williams campus, with funding packages generally available to thesis-based students.
