Admission Requirements: Domestic entry: an OSSD or equivalent, or mature-student standing at 19 or older, with Grade 12 English at a minimum of 60% at the C level or 50% at the U level, or Preparatory Communications (COMM1251). Applicants who miss the English requirement can arrange pre-admission testing to have the subject assessed. Before off-campus activity such as field workshop courses, students must present an annual vulnerable sector police check clear of unpardoned offences; agencies such as correctional institutions decide their own acceptance and some ask for a check issued within six months of the visit. Conestoga notes that applicants without a clear check may struggle to find work in the community safety sector, that some jobs impose physical, driving age, health and vision standards, that a high level of physical fitness is required for correctional services staff, and that employers may expect Standard First Aid and CPR/AED at Level C. International applicants: Conestoga's standard diploma and certificate English minimums apply - IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 80 with no skill below 20, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 110. Anyone holding transcripts from outside Canada, Canadian citizens and permanent residents included, needs a course-by-course credential evaluation from a service such as ICAS or WES, and must show English proficiency if the language of instruction was not English.
