Cert in University Preparation Program

This is a preparatory pathway, without a formal credential of its own, for students who are about to begin university transfer studies at Coquitlam College. It focuses on basic research skills, critical thinking, and academic writing style and formatting, and is organized into three levels: Beginner, covering writing, reading, conversation, and grammar; Intermediate, covering writing, reading, and two elective courses; and Advanced, also covering writing, reading, and two electives. While enrolled, students may take up to two University Transfer courses alongside their preparation coursework, and on completion they move into full-time University Transfer studies. Entry requires having already passed the Advanced Reading and Advanced Writing courses, with placement into one of the three levels determined by Coquitlam College's own English Proficiency Test. The program suits students who need to strengthen academic English and study skills before taking on a full course load of degree-level coursework.
