Program details

Overview

Plant Science is offered as a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Dalhousie's Truro and Bible Hill campus, with September and January entry and Honours, Major, and Minor pathways, alongside diploma and certificate options. The curriculum builds foundational knowledge in plant sciences connected to the broader biological and agricultural sciences, with courses covering agricultural ecosystems, plant diversity, genetics, soil science, entomology, plant pathology, and weed science, framed around sustainably meeting the food needs of a growing global population. The program can include work-integrated learning internships and plant production courses that provide direct, hands-on experience with crop systems. It suits students pursuing careers in agriculture, food production, or environmental sectors, including those aiming to become Professional Agrologists, Certified Crop Advisors, or research technicians in plant-related fields.

Requirements

Minimum GPA: 75.00 / %
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from a completed Grade 12 requires a minimum overall average of 75 percent, including Academic English 12, Pre-calculus Math 12, and three further academic Grade 12 subjects. Applicants missing the required pre-calculus course can still be admitted conditionally, on the requirement that they complete a Grade 12 pre-calculus-equivalent upgrading course before arriving at Dalhousie. Admission is competitive, so meeting the minimum average does not guarantee a place. International applicants are assessed on the same subject list through Dalhousie's equivalency tables and must also meet the university's English-language requirement unless exempt, for example IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20. The programme, run on Dalhousie's Agricultural Campus, admits students in both September and January.

Application Details

Start Date: September and January
Application Deadline: Dalhousie's live Dates and Deadlines page still shows the September 2026 entry cycle as of mid-September 2026, not the 2027 cycle. For that cycle, Bachelor of Science (Nursing), Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) and Bachelor of Social Work close February 15, 2026; the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (Architecture) closes March 1, 2026; and the Health Sciences post-diploma option closes June 15, 2026. All other undergraduate programmes are considered on a rolling, space-available basis for both domestic and international applicants, with no separate international closing date published; May 15, 2026 is only the deposit and English-proficiency deadline, not an application deadline. Dalhousie has not yet published September 2027 entry dates. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
