BA/BS in Field Crops and Horticulture

Field Crops and Horticulture is an undergraduate specialization within the Major in Sustainable Agricultural Systems at McGill's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, leading toward a Bachelor of Science (Agricultural and Environmental Sciences). The specialization covers the biology, physiology, breeding, propagation, and management of domesticated crops and vegetables, addressing plant sources for food production in both urban and rural settings. Coursework includes Forage Crops and Pastures, Plant Pathology, Agroecology of Vegetables and Fruits, Plant Structure and Function, Weed Biology and Control, and Plant Breeding. The specialization connects to related areas such as Livestock and Global Food Security and provides dedicated agronomic content that supports eligibility for the Ordre des agronomes du Quebec (OAQ). Graduates are prepared for roles in horticulture, field crop development, production and management, government services, teaching, consulting, and further postgraduate study in agriculture-related fields.
