Program details

Overview

Plant Production covers the biology, physiology, breeding, propagation and management of domesticated plants, reflecting the growing importance of the plant industry in rural and urban settings. Core courses address plant pathology, propagation and breeding, complemented by electives such as urban horticulture, greenhouse management and biocontrol of pest insects. Combined with the Agro-Environmental Sciences major and the Professional Agrology specialization, the programme meets eligibility requirements for the Ordre des agronomes du Québec (OAQ). It is offered within the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as part of the Bachelor of Science (Agricultural and Environmental Sciences), with Agro-Environmental Sciences the recommended major. Courses include Plant Pathology, Plant Propagation and Plant Breeding. Graduates find employment in horticulture, field crop development, production and management, government services, extension work, teaching, consulting or post-graduate studies, in roles such as horticulturist, botanist, researcher and greenhouse manager.
