Overview
The Master of Science in Audiology is a three-year, full-time graduate program delivered in person through Dalhousie's School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, training students to diagnose and manage hearing loss and balance disorders. The degree combines classroom coursework with clinical practica and a research project or thesis. Clinical training builds progressively: first-year students observe clinic activities and take part in community hearing-screening programs, second-year students undertake sheltered clinical work and observational practica plus a 12-week full-time summer placement in Atlantic Canada, and final-year students complete an externship that may take place elsewhere in Canada or in the United States. Graduates become eligible for certification through Speech-Language & Audiology Canada and for licensure in provinces that regulate the profession. The program is based in Halifax, with clinical placements extending across the region and, for some students, beyond it. It suits students pursuing a clinical healthcare career in audiology who are prepared to complete supervised placements away from campus, including students open to relocating after graduation for employment.

Admission Requirements: Dalhousie's School of Communication Sciences and Disorders admits Master of Science in Audiology applicants who hold a four-year bachelor's degree (an honours degree is an advantage); no specific prerequisite courses are mandatory, though the School notes applicants are best prepared with prior coursework in human biology or physiology, psychology or neuroscience, and linguistics or language study. The School's minimum admission GPA is 3.3, calculated on the most recent 60 credit hours, though admission is highly competitive and successful applicants typically score well above this. Candidates may apply to both the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology programs, but must submit two separate, complete applications. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the Faculty of Graduate Studies standard of IELTS Academic 7 or TOEFL iBT 92. Because of clinical placements, a satisfactory criminal record check and up-to-date immunizations, including COVID-19, may be required. The deadline for fall enrolment is January 15.

For that cycle, Bachelor of Science (Nursing), Bachelor of Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) and Bachelor of Social Work close February 15, 2026; the Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies (Architecture) closes March 1, 2026; and the Health Sciences post-diploma option closes June 15, 2026. All other undergraduate programmes are considered on a rolling, space-available basis for both domestic and international applicants, with no separate international closing date published; May 15, 2026 is only the deposit and English-proficiency deadline, not an application deadline. Dalhousie has not yet published September 2027 entry dates. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
