Overview
Social Science - General Studies is a two-year pre-university Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) profile within Dawson College's Social Science program. It gives students access to courses across eleven social science disciplines, including psychology, history, political science, economics, sociology and anthropology, and allows up to three university-level prerequisite courses in mathematics and biology to be added where a chosen university path requires them. Rather than following a fixed specialization, students build their own schedule from the available offerings, and may join optional learning communities or work toward certificates in areas such as Environment and Sustainability, Peace Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Hellenic Studies, or Decolonization and Indigenization Studies. The profile also runs an annual Social Science Week featuring guest researchers. It suits students who want to explore several social science disciplines before choosing a university major, or who need particular science or mathematics prerequisites alongside their social science coursework. The programme page does not add further subject-specific prerequisites and defers to Dawson College's general English-language admission requirements: applicants whose mother tongue or secondary-school language of instruction was not English must submit TOEFL iBT (minimum 4), IELTS Academic (minimum 6.0 overall), PTE Academic (minimum 50), or Duolingo (minimum 95-100 overall), each valid for two years from the test date. Applicants intending to transfer into a specific university programme are advised to confirm they also meet that programme's own prerequisites before applying. Applications for Winter 2027 opened 22 September 2026 with a deadline of 1 November 2026; however, international students are not eligible to apply for the Winter semester unless they already hold a valid CAQ/CSQ and Study Permit naming Dawson College, given Quebec's study-authorization processing times. Fall admission's standing deadline is 1 March, though Fall 2027 application dates were not yet posted as of September 2026 (Fall 2026 closed on 1 March 2026 with no late applications accepted).
