Biomedical Laboratory Technology is a three-year technical program at Dawson College leading to a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC), Profile 140.C0. The program gives students the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease by providing biomedical laboratory services to physicians and other clients. Students learn to analyze biological specimens and perform laboratory analyses in hematology, clinical biochemistry, histology, clinical microbiology, transfusion science, and molecular biology. Admission requires specific secondary-level mathematics, chemistry, and physics courses, an interview, and placement testing in College English and Basic French. Graduates are prepared to work as medical laboratory technologists in hospital, clinical, and research laboratory settings. The program is delivered over six academic semesters of full-time study.

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES), or an academic background judged equivalent to the DES, along with specific secondary-level mathematics, chemistry, and physics courses. An interview is required, and placement at College English 101 and Basic French 100 may be assessed by testing.
