Overview
The Environmental Studies Associate Degree at Douglas College is a two-year, 60-credit credential drawing on courses in anthropology, economics, geography, sociology, criminology, philosophy, history, political science, and earth and environmental science. Students participate in discussions and presentations, gain field experience, and attend classroom lectures to develop critical-thinking, writing, research, and presentation skills. An optional Co-operative Education stream allows students to alternate semesters of study with paid, full-time work terms; participation requires planning two semesters in advance through the Co-op Office. Under a Block Transfer Agreement with the University of the Fraser Valley, graduates can transfer directly into the Bachelor of Environmental Studies, Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Natural Sciences), or Bachelor of Regional and Community Planning programs. Courses selected according to the BC Transfer Guide can also lead to entry into the third year of a four-year bachelor's degree program at other British Columbia research universities. A tuition-free, six-week online preparatory course, MATU 0500 Set for Stats, is available for students refreshing mathematics skills before the required statistics course. The program is offered full-time or part-time, with Fall, Winter, and Summer intakes, under Open Enrolment and the college's General College Admission Requirements.
