Overview
The Financial Planning Post-Degree Diploma builds your knowledge of financial planning, taxation and investing that you’ll need in order to become a Certified Financial Planner.
You’ll take finance courses in financial services marketing, Canadian securities, wealth management and more. In your second semester, you’ll create a professional financial plan using four of the six financial components you’ve learned through your education. When possible, cases will be sourced from current clients. In the Business Internship Program, you’ll apply the theory and knowledge you’ve learned in class into a real-world business setting.
During your unpaid part-time internship, you’ll be assigned tasks and projects that junior management, marketing, business, administrative and/or sales employees complete in the modern workplace. You'll also have the option to participate in the Career Boost program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: On top of Douglas College's general admission requirements and English Language Proficiency requirement (proof of English proficiency, met with IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 83, PTE Academic 56, Duolingo English Test 110, CAEL 60 or another option the college accepts), the Financial Planning Post-Degree Diploma requires an undergraduate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada, or an equivalent credential from an approved institution in another country. Applicants whose degree was earned in a language other than English must separately meet the college's English language proficiency requirement, using the same accepted tests. No minimum GPA, portfolio, interview or work-experience threshold is published for this diploma.

Application Deadline:Douglas College publishes college-wide application windows rather than a single date for every programme, and the domestic and international timetables differ. Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC: for the 2027 entry cycle, Fall applications open 1 October 2026, Winter applications open 1 February 2026, and Summer applications open 1 June 2026; limited-enrolment programmes set no fixed close and shut once seats fill, while open-enrolment programmes stay open until 4:00 p.m. the Friday before the semester starts. International applicants apply directly to Douglas: Fall 2026 entry is now closed, Winter 2027 entry is accepted until 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry until 31 January 2027. Admission is effectively rolling within each window until seats or the deadline are reached. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
