Overview
The Graduate Diploma in Management – Financial Professions (D.E.S.S. en gestion – professions financières) is a 30-credit, second-cycle program at HEC Montréal covering the theoretical foundations of finance, including portfolio management, financial analysis, risk management, investments, compliance at financial institutions, trading in financial markets, and quantitative methods. Coursework also develops advanced spreadsheet and risk-management software skills and prepares students for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification exams. Courses are delivered in hybrid format at the downtown (Centre-ville) campus, alternating weeks of remote and in-person instruction, on a full-time or part-time basis during the day or evening. Graduates commonly work as private equity, credit, fund valuation, financial or infrastructure analysts, investment bankers, portfolio managers, securities traders, compliance officers or in alternative investments. The program admits students for the fall term only and can lead, under certain conditions, into the Master's in Management (M. Sc.) in Finance or Financial Engineering.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must meet one of two profiles: hold a bachelor's degree (at least 90 credits) in business administration, finance or a related field, having preferably completed coursework recommended for the CFA Institute Level 1 exam; or hold a bachelor's degree (at least 90 credits) plus a university specialization in finance or a pass on the CFA Institute Level 1 exam. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on a 4.3 scale is required (a higher average may be required if the applicant's home institution mandates one for graduate admission). French proficiency at the intermediate-advanced level is required, demonstrated either through prior schooling or an approved French test; strong reading ability in English is recommended, as many course readings are in English. The program admits students for the fall term only.
