Overview
This bachelor's program (B.Ing.) in mining engineering at Polytechnique Montréal prepares students to develop mineral resources and lead major excavation projects in transportation (roads, subways) and energy production (hydroelectric works, oil sands). Coursework covers rock excavation, materials handling, production planning, tailings management, drilling and blasting design, ground support, ventilation and pumping, and the economic analysis of ore deposits, with attention to worker safety and environmental impact, including site restoration and tailings valorization. It is a cooperative program with three mandatory paid internships of four months, and a joint program with McGill University, with some courses taught in English. The 120-credit curriculum normally takes four years, extending to five for students who complete Polytechnique's integrated preparatory year. Admission is in Fall and Winter. Instruction is delivered on campus at Polytechnique Montréal in Montreal, Quebec.

Admission Requirements: The Mining Engineering (B.Ing.) page states only that admission is in Fall and Winter, linking to the institution's admission-conditions page for the entry requirements, so the general Baccalauréat conditions apply. Language is assessed first: applicants schooled in a system Polytechnique does not recognise as francophone must present a qualifying French test result — DALF C1/C2 or DELF B2 (lifetime validity), or 400 (level B2) in every component of TCF Canada, TCF Québec, TCF tout public, TEF Canada or TEF Québec (2-year validity) — before the file is reviewed; holders of a Québec DEC, a Canadian secondary diploma or degree earned in French, or schooling from a recognised francophone system or the AEFE network are exempt. Québec applicants enter from the collegial system, normally with a DEC in the appropriate pre-university field; applicants schooled outside Québec apply through published equivalence routes by qualification (French baccalauréat, IB, OSSD and other Canadian provinces, US high school, classes préparatoires, prior university study, among others). Anyone who finished secondary school outside Québec with no subsequent post-secondary study first completes Polytechnique's integrated 30-credit preparatory year, extending the degree to five years.
