Mining Engineering is a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) program at McGill University, established in 1871 as the oldest mining engineering program in Canada and the second oldest in North America. The curriculum covers mathematics, physics, geology, economics, and environmental science alongside applied engineering topics including materials handling, rock fragmentation, ventilation, mining methods, and mineral processing. Students train in the design, development, and implementation of processes and technologies used to extract minerals safely while minimizing environmental impact. The program includes work-term employment opportunities and project-oriented courses that provide hands-on engineering experience. Graduates are prepared for careers as mining engineers across process design, extraction, and environmental management roles in the mining industry. Admission is through the Faculty of Engineering.
