Overview

Employees require understanding and an ability to analyze accounting procedures as they relate to accounting principles.This course teaches students the accounting process from an administrative assistant's point of view for a service and merchandising business. Participants will learn to apply accounting theory and procedures to effectively record business transactions into the proper journal and ledger and to use this information to prepare accurate financial statements. You will learn the importance of adjusting and closing entries and the accounting terminology required to function effectively as an administrative assistant.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-applicant status with credit in Grade 12 English (College or University stream, C or U); applicants who do not meet these requirements are directed toward academic upgrading. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Fanshawe's Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas & Certificates English requirement: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79 (2026-scale equivalent overall 4.5, no band below 4.0), PTE Academic 53 (no band below 45), CAEL 60 (no band below 50), Cambridge English 169 (no skill below 162), or Duolingo 105 (no score below 95).

Start Date: September and January
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
